JT Products
geolus SHAPE now supports JT geometry format.
geolus SHAPE, sd&m AG's 3D search engine, now supports the JT file format from the PLM service provider Unigraphics Solutions (UGS). The IT and consulting company sd&m is part of the Capgemini Group and joined the JT Open Initiative to facilitate this enhancement. geolus SHAPE searches for 3D models of components on the basis of their geometric similarity. Use of the JT interface from UGS means that geolus SHAPE now interacts just as smoothly with products such as NX or Teamcenter from the PLM software specialist as it does with the products of a wide range of other vendors. Alongside JT, geolus SHAPE continues to support the open geometry formats STL and VRML.
The Benefits of JT and the JT Open Program
Greater scope of application for the 3D search engine
sd&m is convinced by the user- and vendor-neutral exchange format JT. In the words of Dr. Joachim Kreutzberg, head of PLM product management at sd&m, "The JT interface has proved to be very stable in both synchronous online operation and in intensive batch operation. It is therefore only logical that we were quick to invest in the technical implementation of our JT interface and have already introduced it with several of our reference customers. Our membership of the JT Open Initiative means that we can now offer all geolus SHAPE users a powerful, tried-and-tested JT interface." JT is a widespread file format which allows users to exchange 3D data between PLM applications for the purposes of visualization, collaboration and data-sharing. The JT Open Initiative provides a framework within which major vendors and users such as UGS, PTC, SAP, General Motors, Ford and DaimlerChrysler can share experiences and introduce their requirements. sd&m is also a member of the international ProSTEP iViP network.
