The 1836 established school is today one of the leading universities for education and research in mechanical engineering in Germany and Europe. Located in Darmstadt, south of Frankfurt, the university educates about 16.000 students with fourteen percent from foreign countries. This year the university was honored with the 'Best Practice Award 2001' among the leading twelve universities in Germany. The award, presented by the center of high school development, CHE, honors comprehensive and exemplary reformative efforts in high school education.
